Baba

"Grandmothers never run out of hugs or cookies."

The love, the patience, the kindness my mother has for her grandkids can go without words.  It's the sparkle in her eye, the grin from ear to ear & the giggle when they misbehave. These characteristics describe "Baba". In our family, a family is not complete without a Baba.

I'll never forget what Rod said to me this past christmas visit:
"Jaime, you should have seen how bad the kids were this morning.  I was in the backyard taking out Barkley, and I see you leave for work.  The second the door closed behind you, your kids went crazy.  Mom & Dad just laughed.  I stayed outside with Barkley."

Due to my husband's hockey career, our kidlets were born in other countries.  Bella was born in Cardiff, Wales & Braxton in Reading, Pennsylvania.  A few weeks after both were born, my mother arrived. She made herself at home - in the kitchen. She held babies, fed babies & changed babies. But things are very different from 30-some years ago when I was a newborn. You laid babies to sleep on their stomach (yes, gasp), baby-walkers were legal, and you definitley did not skype your grandkids while on winter vacation in Hawaii.  But then again, some things do not change.  Baba's can never spoil dinner with a snack right before, they always hand out the extra-large candy bars at halloween & they will play "go fish" on a 12 hour drive from Saskatoon to Prince George.

First Christmas with Baby Braxton

It isn't christmas without a Baba in the kitchen.

It isn't a family chrismas photo without both kidlets crying.

All smiles for a Prince George Christmas Eve

The kidlets are heading back to Saskatoon this August to spend one WHOLE month with their Baba & Gigi at Wakaw Lake.  Bella has many  activities planned: fishing, quad-riding, boat rides, playing with Maddix two doors down.  Brax is looking forward to all of these activities plus one more - Baba's story time before bed.
